Just like there is an art to dermal filler injections, there is an art approach to dissolving them!

One can easily be harmed by an inexperienced provider who is dissolving fillers causing severe damage to the face.

We will focus on the guide on dissolving lip fillers

What are the most common reasons for dissolving lip fillers?

  • Bump after injection that didn’t go away after a few weeks and massaging didn’t help
  • Filler migration creating a duck look and a mustache shadow
  • Too much filler injected
  • Allergic reaction to filler
  • Filler injected into a vein or an artery causing an occlusion
  • Changed mind and don’t like the look or feel
  • Preparing for lip lift surgery

The golden rule:

If you trust your doctor to inject you, you should trust them to manage any unwanted side effects for you.

Always go back to the place that injected you. It can potentially even cost you less too.

When dissolving hyaluronic acid lip fillers, there are several things you can expect:

It always starts with a Consultation: Before undergoing the dissolving procedure, you’ll typically have a consultation with Dr.Avaliani. During this consultation, she will assess your lips, discuss your concerns, and set your expectations.

How does lip dissolving procedure work?

The actual procedure involves injecting an enzyme called hyaluronidase into the lips or around the lip area. Hyaluronidase works by breaking down hyaluronic acid, the main component of most dermal fillers, including lip fillers. The enzyme helps to dissolve the filler and restore your lips to their natural state.

Does lip dissolving procedure hurt?

It may be an uncomfortable mild burning sensation which lasts for a few seconds

What comfort measures does Dr.Avaliani offer for lip dissolving procedure?

We offer topical numbing

We offer nitrous oxide to lessen the discomfort and anxiety (Pro-Nox)

We can perform nerve blocks to numb the area

How much does lip dissolving cost?

The cost depends on many factors listed below. One important thing to know is that dissolving lip filler is just as expensive as injecting it and many times it is even more expensive if one needs more sessions.

What type of filler we are dissolving ( Ex: Voluma is the hardest filler to dissolve, Restylane the easiet)

How much of the product was injected (1 or more cc)

Do we need pre surgical dissolving

Is it one bump or multiple

How long does it take for dissolving to start to work?

Unlike getting lip fillers, where results are immediate, the effects of dissolving lip fillers are not exactly instant but many bumps feel instantly better. It takes a few days and few sessions for the hyaluronidase to fully break down the filler and for your lips to return to their pre-filler state. It all depends on the type of the filler, the amount injected, the experience of the provider and the amount of dissolving enzyme used.

How long is the recovery after lip dissolving procedure?

It depends on how much filler was dissolved. If one tiny bump was injected, there is zero downtime. If a lot of fiiler was dissolved, the swelling will last less than 24 hrs .

What are the most common side effects to expect after lip dissolving?

You may experience some swelling and bruising around the injection site, but this should subside within a few days. There is potentially bruising as there is a needle used. The Hyaluronidase enzyme does not cause a bruise. It can only be attributed to the use of needle in order to deliver enzyme. Swelling and bruising are common side effects of both getting and dissolving lip fillers. You may experience some swelling and bruising around the injection site, but this should subside within a few days.

How soon can I get another dissolving session if I want or need one?

This is discussed with your treating doctor. Dr. Avaliani prefers to wait 1-2 weeks in order to reinject. It is always better to come for the second or next visit once any bruising/swelling/tenderness is completely gone as to avoid injecting enzyme into the swollen tissue and melting natural HA and not soo much of the dermal filler gel HA

How soon can I reinject lip fillers if I decide I want to try again?

While there is no hard set rule, Dr. Avaliani prefers to wait 2-4 weeks to reinject the dermal filler after the last dissolving session. It is not recommended to dissolve and inject in the same visit. Enough time for the healing needs to pass and lips need to return to normal state to evaluate how much filler needs to be reinjected.

It’s all an art! rom injection to dissolving to reinjection, so choose wisely
